From Boomers to Kids with Love !
A Music Website
The parents of my generation lived through the Depression, and immediately after, the big, BIG war - World War ll. By the time we arrived, they were strong, tough folks ; in many cases tightly wound, in some cases hard and cynical ; who'd lived through war and danger, and had stuck their necks out for what was good and important in the world. They'd survived, and they were ready to build.
We "baby boomers" were their kids. We were born to a world in some ways safer, but still a tense, angry place. There was prosperity for many, but for many more, poverty and injustice. Our headlines were about the risk of nuclear destruction, of hot wars in Korea and Vietnam. Our parents fought in wars, and our high school graduating classes were drafted into them too.
But did we ever have music ! We floated on it - an incredible outpouring of songs, from early in the morning until deep in the night, week after week, year after year after year.
Kids in their teens today seem to like this music - that's why we're putting it out here. We're putting it out for our generation too. This is our music - get ready to rock !
The choice of music on this site
This site is an offshoot of of another website, Living Waters Wellness, which as the name suggests, is about wellness and healing. The artists and song choices here have a very broad range, but are also selective ; they're intended to be a positive force - music that in various ways promotes life.
If you're old enough to know this music well, you'll notice that not every song by every artist or group is included. You'll also remember how many of us sometimes drove our personal cars of life off the road and into the woods, so to speak. Our musicians certainly did the same, both in their own lives and their music. The effort here is to present our great music, our songs for the ages. And as "Boomers to Kids" suggests, there are young people in the house.
Help us build it !
Finding these great songs and videos has has been inspiring - posting them and building this site somewhat tedious and lonely ! Boomers to Kids is a work in progress. We still need :
- Your suggestions for additional classic songs/artists (could also include more recent music !)
- More great videos, e.g. from YouTube
- Images of the bands and artists to spiff up our pages
- Help with specific tasks, creating forums and chat possibilities.
So far we're just two old geezers with a song in our heart. With one or two more enthusiastic coworkers, we believe we could conquer the known universe in about a year (well, anyway, build the site faster and better). Please help us !
As noted, we'd like to be somewhat "open source" as to our content. Please send videos, image links, etc to From Boomers 2 Kids With Love
Boomers 2 Kids With Love
As teens in the early and mid 60's, the music coming out of our radios and TV's (e.g. the old Ed Sullivan Show and Dick Clark's American Bandstand) was an incredible gift. At a time when we were groping for our own ideals in life, and ways to deal with our rapidly changing emotions, here were these extremely talented people doing what we were doing in the most varied, inspired and beautiful ways. The music helped and encouraged us to explore ourselves, become ourselves, and much more boldly explore our world.
We're also aware what an inspiration earlier forms of music, especially the blues, were for musicians of our time. They took the blues, ran with it and and transformed it, taking popular music to a whole new level. It would be fantastic to hear the covers our younger generation of musicians might do of the old songs - and how they too might build something new. Kids, we'd love to hear how you experience this "old geezer" music, too !
